The county is popular for the wineries but there are other things to do in Prince Edward County.
Growing up here, I take my visitors to some cool places and I will share them with you too!
There are MANY things you too should experience while here in The County.
So here is my list of things you really should do when visiting Prince Edward County.
25 Things To Do in Prince Edward County
The Sandbanks Provincial Park
Of course, one of the main attractions is the Sandbanks Provincial Park. Although a great place to see, it get very busy through the summer month. Often times if you do not go early enough in the morning the park can be at capacity by noon.
I would suggest getting to the entrance gate around 8 am when it opens. Another option is to visit the Sandbanks later in the day after everyone is gone.
Remember it is a Provincial park so there is an entrance fee.
The park has some amazing sand beaches and trails for walking and bike riding. Camping is awesome as the sunsets are breathtaking.
The Wellington Rotary Beach
Wellington beach can be found down Beach Street in wellington. It is a part of the Sandbanks that no one really knows about.
There is a small lighthouse you can walk out to, it’s worth checking out.
It’s rocky on the west side but if you swim the channel you will oftentimes have the entire sandy beach to yourself. Learn More
H.J. McFarland Conservation Area
Located down Glenora Road or Hyw 33, Picton, Ontario this park has a great view of the east side of Picton Bay. Growing up we would Picnic there a lot. You can even fish there too from the dock.
Straight across the water is the big Cement factory and it’s cool to see the big ships come and go. Learn More
Pointe Petre Conservation Area
My Number one place for swimming and day camping. It does have a rocky shore so be sure to bring water shoes. Lots of birds, rabbits, and deer to be seen.
The waves get very big at times and it’s almost always winding as it’s as far south as you can get into Lake Ontario.
There is an old military testing track that is hidden in the overgrowth, see if you can find it. Learn More
Little Bluff Conservation Area
By far the best view of Prince Edward Bay. If you have binoculars, the view from the bluff is spectacular. There is a rocky beach below for swimming but watch out for water snakes! There is an old shipping docking station, see if you can find it. Learn More

Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area
Lots of trails and wooden bridges for hiking. My grandparent lived close so as kids we explored every part of the trails. There is actually a natural spring on the trail. See if you can find it.
Many people hike the trails or trail bike them. It’s free to visit and the view from the top of the mountain is cool.
If you come in the winter months you just might catch some kids tobogganing down the hill. Learn More
Birdhouse City
Very cool seeing all these mini houses. Some of the houses are modeled after houses found around the county, like MacDonald’s restaurant.
There is history in the bird’s house as some of the structure in Prince Edward County no longer exists.
The area and the birdhouse just got a major facelift as volunteers rebuilt many of the birdhouses.

Lake on the Mountain Park
This freshwater lake really is located on a mountain. It’s actually approx. 62 meters (203 ft) above the Bay of Quinte.
I have fished and snorkeled here. I actually live about 4 min away. The view of the lake is cool and trying to understand how it stays full is intriguing.
This is a must-see when visiting Picton as it’s only 10min out of town. Learn More.

Prince Edward County Lavender Farm
Prince Edward County Lavender Farm is a must-see for any lavender lover. Tour the fields of lavender and learn about the history of this fragrant herb.
The farm offers a variety of lavender-infused products, from soaps and lotions to culinary creations.
There’s even a section of the farm devoted to wedding planning, with lavender bouquets and centerpieces available for purchase.

Millennium Trail
An old Canadian National Railway has been reconditioned into a flat wide trail used for walking, bike riding, and some off-road vehicles. No cars or trucks allowed. The trail runs 49 Km through many smaller communities.
The trails are used for both recreation and transportation, and they are open year-round.
In addition to being a great way to explore the county, the trails also provide an important service: they help to control erosion.

The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory
Out past the Little Bluff conservation area is Long Point. This area stretches out into Lake Ontario. Great for bird watching and fishing. There are a wide variety of bird species, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers from all over the world.
The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory is a research facility dedicated to studying and conserving these birds. The Observatory offers a variety of programs and activities for visitors, including guided walks, educational workshops, and opportunities to volunteer.

Beaver Meadow Wildlife Management Area
I used to love our class trips here in public school. There are lots to see and learn for a great family-friendly outing.
The area is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and picnicking.
It is also a great spot for birdwatching, as it is home to a variety of birds, including the American woodcock, ruffed grouse, and northern bobwhite.

Picton Fair Grounds
Called the Prince Edward Community Center is the ice rink, curling club ball diamond, a now still hosts the local Picton Fair in Sept.

Picton’s Crystal Palace is located there. This well-windowed building was very old but has been restored and is now used for local venues for many community and private events like weddings and receptions throughout the year.
Children can enjoy the skate park or at least you can go watch the action.
Also located at the fairgrounds is a water “Splash Pad” for the kids.
Wellington Farmers Market
I been here literally a thousand times! You’ll find locally produced goods at the Wellington Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 8 am. It starts from the long weekend in May to the October Thanksgiving long weekend.
Tons of fresh produce, crafts, and local goods.
Oftentimes there is live music along with lots and lots of local produce.

Bicycle Around the County
If bicycling is your thing…PEC has welcomed many cyclists over the years. Also, visit the Bloomfield Bicycle Co. if you get a chance located right in Bloomfield to rent a bicycle. The staff is friendly and very accommodating.
Cycling is a great way to see Prince Edward County. There are plenty of bike trails to explore, and the scenery is beautiful. The county is home to some of the best cycling in the province, and there are many Cycling events that take place here throughout the year.

Take Horn Trip
Take a drive around the county and explore. A Horn trip “traditionally” would take you out past Waupoos through Cressy. Now when you can take that route and there is lots to see.
A horn trip is basically a road trip through the county where you can stop at the many wineries, cideries, shops, and parks.

Antique Shopping
Prince Edward County is an old farming town with many old farms and antiques up for grabs.
Be sure to stop by;
Dead People’s Stuff: 388 Main Street, Bloomfield, is a very popular place for tourists and locals.

Best Ice Cream in Picton
Shakes and Cones Ice Cream is located at 19 Elks St, Picton, ON. Very reasonable prices and large quantities. We visit these guys a lot.
Slickers County Ice Cream Ltd has two locations in Prince Edward County.
The first location at 271 Bloomfield Main St is a great little place to stop by. (613) 393-5433.
The second location is at 232 Picton Main St, Prince Edward, ON.
Black River Cheese Factory: 913 County Rd 13, Milford, ON Phone: (613) 476-2575.
They have many different things inside, most locally homemade things like Jams, honey, and maple syrup. They have hard and soft ice cream.
Art Galleries
Prince Edward County has around 19 art galleries and studios for you to browse through. Be sure to follow the Prince Edward County Arts Trail. Some very rare talent here in the county so you’re sure to find something you like.
The Oeno Gallery in Bloomfield is worth stopping by or taking a drive to historical Waupoos to Joel Clark Fine Arts. Also, Small Pond Arts in Picton are worth visiting.
Music in The County
If you like live music then PEC has a few great options to check out. Almost every venue serves food that you can enjoy while you listen.

he live music often starts early so I recommend getting their early order of some great food and you’ll be set for when the music starts.

Offers live music every Thursday and Friday night…And they have a dance floor. One of my favorite places to go and have inexpensive beer on a patio. The Sunday Caesars ROCK!
