Top Prince Edward County Beaches You Should Know
Here are my top Prince Edward County beaches that you should check out while your visiting.
Each beach has something different to offer and depending on what your looking for I’m sure there’s a beach in the county for you.
Many people flock to Prince Edward County for the sandy beaches of the Sandbanks Provincial Park.
I fact many don’t realize there are other awesome beaches that cost nothing to swim at if you know where to go.
Does Prince Edward County Have a Beach?
There are many different types of beaches in Prince Edward County to choose from. Let’s take a look.
Outlet Beach – The #1 Most popular sandy beach in Prince Edward County.
Sandbanks Beach – Popular sandy beach.
Lakeshore Beach – Popular Sandy beach.
Wellington Beach – Main side is rocky shore but Sandbanks side is sandy beach.
Cove Beach – Located in Cherry valley.
North Beach – Located in Consecon has sandy beach with small stones.
Wellers Bay – Hard to get to but you can swim there as it’s part of the North Beach.
Little Bluff – Rocky beach lots of water snakes.
Long Point Rd Beach at Prince Edward Point – Rocky shoreline and heavy water snakes.
Roblin Lake Beach – Small rocky shore with a sandy base.
MacFarland Park – There is a boat launch to swim from and picnic area.
Lake on the Mountain – Not easy access, shallow with lots of weeds.
Point Petre – Rock beach and flat rock beaches. Bring water shoes.
Waupoos Marina – you can jump off the docks. Lots of weeds and water snakes.
Sandbanks Provincial Park Beaches
Sandbanks Provincial Park – Located at 3004 County Rd 12, Picton, ON K0K 2T0.
By far the most popular Prince Edward County beach is the Sandbanks Provincial Park.
In my opinion this beach is the most well-known sandy beach in all of Ontario.
This park is made up of 3 different beaches that all have some amazing dune formation.
Some days the water is so clear and blue it seems like you’re in a tropical paradise down south.
The Three Beaches
The Outlet Beach – Is a long flat sandy beach area that’s perfect for families, with shallow waters that go out over 100 feet.
The Dunes Beach – Lots of steep sand dunes but be careful as there are some very steep drop off just off the shoreline.
The Lakeshore Beach – The largest part of the Sandbanks beach that stretches all the way to Wellington. It also has very shallow waters the reach a fair distance out into Lake Ontario.
What time does sandbanks beach open?
The Sandbanks park is open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and requires a park pass for day use. The park is seasonal and is open from April 29, 2022 to October 31, 2022.
Wellington Beach
An often forgotten about beach in Prince Edward County. The past few years this beach has become more popular.
This is a rocky beach front that offers a nice covered seating areas with picnic tables.
The beach mainly has bigger stones on the beach but as you enter the water the rocks become coarse sand and smaller pebbles.
There is parking but there’s not really a ton of room.
There’s also a small boardwalk to use on the perimeter if you don’t want to walk on the rocks or sand.
There is a boat launch available too and boats do come and go quite often.
Check out the small light house while you’re there. Fact is in the fall it’s great fishing from that lighthouse location.
There is a deep channel that if you swim across it takes you to Sandbanks Lakeshore Beach. There is usually no one over there and you can have sand beach all to yourself.
Cove Beach in Cherry Valley
This not a public beach and is located inside Great Blue Resorts. The use of the beach would require an overnight stay.
If your looking for a resort with a beach then Cove beach has you covered.
The beach in this resort is very clean and well maintained.
There is a water trampoline and a huge, inflatable water structure for children.
The fact that Cove beach is private means there is lees people.
North Beach Provincial Park
North Beach Provincial Park – Located at 440 North Beach Rd Consecon, K0K 2T0.
The North Beach Provincial Park is similar to the Sandbanks but it’s smaller. It’s just over one kilometer in length and has sand mixed with small pebbles on the beach.
You can choose to swim on the Lake Ontario side or on the North Bay side facing the county.
I’ve noticed that this beach is less busy through the summer making it a better option for those who want to avoid the bigger crowds at the Sandbanks Park.
In my experience the washrooms could use attention and are often not very clean.
Wellers Bay Beaches
We have always used the Wellers bay boat launch for swimming in my younger years. We would often fish and then swim before we would leave.
If you have a boat then you can use any part of the long stretch of beach. Spend the day or go for a quick dip. There is almost never anyone there
Little Bluff Conservation Area Beach
It’s a bit of drive deep into the county but the view is worth it.
There is a fair sized rocky beach that does drop off fast so beware. You may also notice some water snakes while swimming as there is a huge swamp close by.
Later in the summer the water starts to turn yellow green and there is a heavy water snake presence. If you stand the cold water…earlier in the year the water is very clear.
I’ve snorkeled here many times.
Long Point Rd Beach at Prince Edward Point
Out past little bluff conservation area is the Prince Edward Point bird observatory.
It’s a long drive deep into Prince Edward County but the are extends out into Lake Ontario so it’s an amazing place for sightseeing.
Here you will find that you can swim off large flat rocks but there are some rocky beaches also.
We used to call this area Long Point but the name was changed some time ago (1978).
The rocks do drop off quickly in some spots so be careful. The wind dose come up fast and there are often big waves too.
Roblin Lake Beach
If you’re looking for a beautiful and secluded beach to relax and rejuvenate, then Roblin Lake Beach is the place for you!
This picturesque beach is located in Ameliasburgh, in the north west section of Prince Edward COunty.
It’s a public beach that’s perfect for a peaceful day trip away from the crowds at the Sandbanks Provincial Park.
The gently rolling waves and crystal-clear waters are well worth the drive, and the beach is also great for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and kayaking.
Roblin Lake Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Prince Edward County, and with good reason. The beach is well-maintained, and the sand is incredibly soft.
There are plenty of amenities available, such as showers, changing rooms, and a playground.
The beach also has a wide variety of food options, from hot dogs to pizza.
MacFarland Park
Ok so this is not really a beach but we used to swim here. In high school we would take off to this park throughout the summer for a quick dip.
Summer is the perfect time to spend some time on the water, and MacFarland Park in Prince Edward County has one of the best places to launch your boat.
Not only is MacFarland Park boat launch a great spot for a day in the sun, but it’s also a great place to take in some breathtaking views of the coastline.
Straight across the water you can see the huge Lehigh Cement Factory in the distance and a large cliff bridge structure used to load large cement ships.
Lake on the Mountain
Yes you can swim at Lake on the Mountain! This lake is a non motorized conservation area that is a must see while visiting.
I’ve swam here for years and there used to be an old wooden dock we would walk out on.
This dock sank underwater years ago but you can still see it from the lookout points where you can learn some history about the lake.
Since they built the lookout points it’s not easy to swim here anymore although I did just snorkel there last year.
The lake has become a great place for fishing, canoeing and Kayaking but like the swimming it’s difficult to get access to the water.
While your there be sure to check out The Inn at Lake on the Mountain. Great food and their own local craft beer. Across the road is the Miller House with a spectacular view of The Glenora Ferry an Picton Bay.
Point Petre Consevation Area
Definitely one of my favorite places to swim through the summer.
There are a couple rock beach section where many people enjoy a open fire and beautiful sunsets.
A majority of this area is large flat rocks.
There are sudden drop offs if your not careful.
The waves here get really big and can create some strong undertow.
If you go on a nice calm day the water can be crystal clear and is beautiful for swimming.
Waupoos Marina
This is another boat launch we used to swim from through the summer months.
I was with some friends last summer and although the marina has really expanded we could still jump from the docks there.
The long dock off to the side of the marina we would jump off into the water then climb back up the ladder on the end of the dock.
Just be careful of boats and they are coming and going all the time.
