Where you can drive your side-by-side on the road in Prince Edward County? This will help you understand the Prince Edward County ATV bylaw and where you can and cannot drive.
Bottom line is, you can drive your ATV, UTV, or side by side on the roads in Prince Edward County but there are restrictions! You cannot drive on main highways 62, 33, or 49. You cannot drive down the main street of Picton Wellington or Bloomfield. All outside county roads are legal.
Prince Edward County has a growing population of ATVs and Side by side these days.
You will see ATVs and UTVs all around the county but can they drive on the road everywhere?
The quick answer is no.
I will explain all the restrictions, See below.
When I bought my side by side I went to the Town Hall in Picton for a copy of the Prince Edward County ATV bylaw BY-LAW NO. 3668-2015.
The Map below shows where you can and cannot drive your Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) in PEC.
Otherwise, all outside-of-town county roads are fair game, just be careful and respectful of traffic.

I had a cheap mirror (approx. $30) and it broke on my first trail ride as it was made of glass.
I bought this mirror for my Polaris RZR 900 trail because it hangs a bit lower and will work with or without a roof or windshield.
Fit any round roll bar and installs it very easily.
It’s doesn’t move and stays in the same spot even on the bumpy trails here in PEC.
The Mirror is clear and provides the wide rearview needed for street driving.
It’s small and out of the way if you want to save room on your UTV.
Note: I recommend you Install the small screws and nuts on the mirror prior to install on your roll cage, it makes it much easier.
If you own a Can-Am then you will need a rearview mirror that mounts differently as the roll bar is not round.
This mirror fits my Polaris RZR and it also fits my Can-Am Maverick Trail 1000. It’s also compatible with another side by side too.
Compatible with the Can-Am Maverick Sport, Maverick Sport MAX, Defender, and Defender MAX.
The mirror is nice and wide and I can see behind me very well. I wouldn’t drive on the road or trails without one now.
It’s not glass which makes it very durable for trail riding.
It doesn’t move when you hit bumps and trust me this is important because some mirrors do move.
Took me around 3 minutes to install. It provides a great view. And it’s not bulky and big like other mirrors.
2. Side Mirrors
I would certainly recommend a side mirror.
When riding you will find yourself continually looking for them specifically when you pass a car, tractor, or anything else.

4. Scissor Jack and Mount
One thing for sure you if break a drive belt or get a flat tire you’re going to need a top-quality scissor jack that can handle any emergency.

What The Prince Edward County BY Law Says
All-terrain vehicles, multi-purpose off-highway utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, or recreational off-highway vehicles as defined, shall not be operated on the following municipal highways:
A) Year Round Restriction
- Picton Main Street- Cold Storage Road to Spencer Street
- Bloomfield Main Street- within village limits
- Wellington Street (Bloomfield) – Bloomfield Main Street to village limits
- Wellington Main Street – Belleville Street to Consecon Street
- County Road 3
- Talbot Street – Picton Main Street to the town limits (Millennium Trail)
- Johnson Street – Picton Main Street to town limits (Millennium Trail)
- Union Street – Bridge Street to Church Street
- County Road 10 – town limits to County Rd 11
- Lake Street – Picton Main Street to town limits
B) Seasonal Restriction – May 1 to October 1 any year
- Loyalist Parkway – from County Road 64 Carrying Place to Wellington West Boundary
- Wellington Main Street – from Wellington boundary easterly to Consecon Street
- Wellington Main Street – from Belleville Street easterly to Wellington boundary
- Loyalist Parkway – Wellington east boundary to Bloomfield west boundary/Wellington

Millennium Trail and Off-Road Vehicles
The Millennium Trail has 49 kilometers of trails that are old railway beds and are really cool to ride.
Be cautious on the trail. All off-road vehicles are allowed on the trial but so are bicycles, golf carts, and people walking and running all throughout the day.
You can access the trail from several locations throughout Prince Edward County.
I have accessed the Millennium from the parking lot by the liquor store in Picton on Lake Street at No Frills in Picton, Wellington, Bloomfield, and Consecon.
Road Allowance Trail Riding in PEC
To ride trails in Prince Edward County you will need to purchase an Eastern Ontario trail pass.
This gives you permission to ride on all the trails in the county.
Some of these trails are on a road allowance meaning they run through private property but the trails are not owned by property owners.
It’s common to see Private Property signage throughout the trails.
This means they want you to stay on the trails and not get off onto their private property. That’s fair enough.
There are many trails to ride in Prince Edward County and most of you can reach them by road.
The most popular and commonplace trail ride is Point Petre or Long Point.
Located on the lower section of the map above off of Army Reserve Road. It rides next to lake Ontario and there is lot to see out that way including wildlife and waterfowl.
