Located at 296 County Rd # 7 about 15min east, outside of Picton.

Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park is located in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada and it popular tourist area for good reason.

This is a motor-free lake fed by natural springs and groundwater and offers many amazing photo ops for tourists and even us locals.

This is a popular tourist destination as it provides a scenic vantage point over the Glenora Ferry and the Adolphus Reach in the bay of Quinte.

The Park is named for its centerpiece, Lake on the Mountain, a curious body of water that sits atop a hill and has no visible source.

Despite this mystery, the lake is clean and clear, and visitors can swim in it or paddle around it in rowboats.

There are also several hiking trails in the park, which offer stunning views of the lake and the surrounding countryside.

This Provincial Park is a great place to enjoy a summer day outdoors and it’s not too far from Picton.

Visitors can picnic on the shores of the lake, go for a swim, or take a hike through the woods.

The Park is also a popular spot for fishing, and anglers can often be seen casting their lines in hopes of catching a Bass or Pike.

Where does the water come from?

The water in Lake on the mountain comes from streams and is thought to have an underwater spring. Many researchers believe the lake is so deep that it doesn’t have a bottom.

The fact is the latest research has a depth at 37m in the deepest spot.

Lake on the mountain is a freshwater lake that is approximately 1.5 km long and 0.5 km wide, with a maximum depth of 30 meters.

The lake is fed by several small streams, and its primary outflow is a small stream that runs under county road #7 to the cliffs down into the Bay of Quinte that makes up Lake Ontario.

Can you swim in lake on the mountain?

Yes, you can swim at the lake on the Mountain. In fact, I was just snorkeling there last summer.

Swimming is free but it’s not that easy to access the water.

However, where I used to enter the water is now private land with no trespassing signs.

To enter the water, you need to approach the water from the lookout points in the actual park.

The lake is shallow out to around 150 feet from land then it starts to get deeper.

There are tons of thick weeds which doesn’t allow for much underwater scenery close to shore.

You need to swim straight across the lake where there are fewer weeds and you will see lots of small fish and a few turtles.

Can you walk around Lake on the mountain?

There is a walking trail around the lake but it’s on private land now. There are signs that say no trespassing and there are fences blocking all the laneways in from the roads around it.

You can walk around sections of the lake that are part of the conservation area or the Lake on the mountain resort.

The path is still present but has become a bit overgrown in some places.

I would not recommend walking around the lake because technically it would be trespassing.

Do you have to pay at Lake on the Mountain?

No, you do not. Admission to this Provincial Park is free although the park is maintained as part of the Sandbanks Provincial Park.

There is a free parking lot across the road and public bathrooms which is nice.

I will say that because it’s free it gets busy during the summer and parking and sightseeing become a challenge.

Lake on The Mountain Resort

This resort is one of the province’s hidden gems that you have to experience for yourself. Nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County, the resort offers breathtaking views of Adolphus Reach and the Glenora Ferry – Adolphustown Dock.

There are also offsite accommodations at the bottom of the hill beside the lake on the mountain brewery.

The cottages are spacious and well-appointed, and each one has a private deck or patio.

Lake on the Mountain Restaurant

Oh yes! We eat here many times through the summer months and for good reason. Lake on the Mountain Restaurant and Inn is a popular destination for visitors to Prince Edward County.

The restaurant offers a unique dining experience, with beautiful views of the lake from the patio.

The inventive menu features locally sourced ingredients. My favorite meal is always the mountain burger with golden fries.

The inn is also a popular choice for overnight guests, offering comfortable rooms and a variety of amenities.

We choose this place for a romantic getaway close to home where we can enjoy some delicious food while watching the sun go down on the lake. Not just for tourists but for us locals too!

The Miller House Restaurant Picton

The Miller House is a restaurant with an amazing patio located at the lake on the mountain in, Prince Edward County.

The restaurant is situated across the road from the Provincial Park Lake and offers some stunning views from just over 200 feet above the bay on a cliff.

The menu features seasonal and local ingredients, with a focus on fresh, handmade dishes including charcuterie boards.

The Miller House is open for lunch and dinner, and also offers a takeaway menu that I have never used but it’s an option.

The restaurant has received rave reviews from both locals and visitors and is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park Map

This map shows the location of the official park and what you can access.

The park is situated on a small mountain that overlooks the Bay of Quinte so you can enjoy two amazing views in one visit.

The map shows you the lookouts, the small beach, and the picnic area. Most of the area around the lake is now privately owned and although there is a hiking trail I wouldn’t recommend trespassing.

The map also shows the location of the nearby Miller House and Lake on the Mountain Inn. Two amazing places to enjoy a glass of wine and spectacular views.

Lake on the Mountain Brewery

The Lake on the Mountain Brewery is a popular destination for local craft beer lovers in Prince Edward County.

The brewery offers a variety of small-batch beers, including IPAs, stouts, and sours.

All of the beer is named after locations around Prince Edward County, for example, The Country Brown, Long Point Lager, Lake Monster Sour, and the Prinyers Pilsner.

Visitors can tour the brewery and learn about the brewing process, or relax in the taproom and enjoy a pint or two.

Lake on the Mountain Brewery is also unique in that it uses water from Lake on the Mountain, which is said to have magical properties.

While many breweries source their water from local wells, Lake on the Mountain Brewery believes that the water from Lake on the Mountain gives their beer a distinct flavor.
