Why Blue Sail Is Picton’s Go-To Spot for Seafood

Located in the heart of Picton, Ontario, the Blue Sail Seafood Market & Restaurant is a celebrated culinary destination that brings the freshest seafood delights to both us locals and tourists.
Before I get started, this is my opinion based on the fact that I love seafood and I’ve been to this restaurant many, many times.
There are some great points and some room for improvement. I will walk you through.
I can tell you upfront, this Picton restaurant has a passion for quality, as they offer a unique dining experience that is as flavorful as it is memorable.
Whether you’re indulging in the least expensive place in Prince Edward County for fresh East Coast oysters or exploring their seafood market beside the restaurant, it’s certainly worth checking out, and I’ll explain why.
What Makes the Blue Sail Seafood Restaurant Unique in Picton?

First of all, there are no Seafood restaurants in Prince Edward County. Yes, you can get Fish and Chips everywhere, but there is not one restaurant that specializes in Seafood.
Secondly, fresh seafood arrives regularly, and it’s very reasonably priced for such high quality.
Ok. let’s jump into a bit more details.
Fresh Seafood Sourcing and Quality
At the core of the Blue Sail Seafood Restaurant’s exceptional offerings is its unwavering commitment to sourcing the freshest seafood available.
I asked how old the oysters were, and our server told me they arrived the night before. Crazy fresh.
She also told us they pride themselves on partnering with trusted East Coast suppliers to ensure that every dish served is not only delicious but also sustainable.
From steak to salmon, each seafood option is carefully selected, guaranteeing that diners enjoy the highest quality seafood dish.
This dedication to freshness means that the local fish or seafood you savor at Blue Sail is often caught just hours before it makes its way to the plate, providing an unparalleled taste experience that truly represents the flavors of Picton and the surrounding waters of Prince Edward County while still delivering East Coast seafood.
Note: The times we’ve been there, they did not offer Halibut or local Pickerel on the menu, which was a bit disappointing, but the Lobster rolls made up for it.
Atmosphere and Dining Experience
The ambiance we experienced at Blue Sail Restaurant went beyond just our meal; it’s about creating lasting memories in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The interior combines nautical themes with modern decor, making it a perfect spot for casual dining or special occasions.
The large window in the front invites some natural light, but we enjoyed the dark ambiance. You can still see the bustling Main Street, allowing guests to soak in the vibrant community vibe of Picton.
Check Out The Blue Sail Menu
There are two options: the restaurant menu and the Market menu.
Below is a sample of the menu to give you an idea of what they offer. Keep in mind the menu changes as they like to mix things up, which is nice.

Dine in or several take-out packages for home, the trailer or campsite.
Signature Dishes with Fresh Seafood Options
The menu at Blue Sail Seafood Market is a treasure trove, featuring an array of signature dishes that highlight the freshest seafood.
Diners can indulge in a variety of expertly prepared dishes, from classic fish and chips to innovative seafood sushi rolls.
Each dish is crafted with the utmost attention to detail, showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients while incorporating local herbs and spices.
Whether you’re in the mood for succulent shrimp or perfectly grilled trout, the menu offers something for everyone, making it a top choice for seafood lovers in Picton. Don’t miss out on the chance to taste the special dishes that rotate weekly, bringing even more variety to your dining experience.

Seasonal Specials and Countylicious Meals
Have you heard of Countylicious? Check out my video explaining how Countylicious works and why it’s worth going out for dinner during those times.
We’ve been to the Blue Sail for Countylicious, and we can tell you they take pride in presenting seasonal specials that reflect the best of what each time of year has to offer.
During Countylicious, guests can indulge in specially curated menus that highlight the bounty of Prince Edward County, making dining at Blue Sail a truly unique experience.
Fresh Wild Arctic Char and Other Fish Choices
One of the standout features of the Blue Sail menu is its selection of fish, including the highly sought-after Fresh Wild Arctic Char from Quebec.
The Wild Arctic Char meat is flaky, similar to salmon. This fish is a great source of Thiamin, Niacin and Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Phosphorus, and Selenium.
Known for its rich flavor and health benefits, the Wild Arctic Char is pan-roasted and served with roasted potatoes.
If you get a chance, I recommend the Deep Sea Scallops! The best way to describe them is succulent, soft, and seafood goodness!
The Blue Sail Has a Fish Market in Picton
Here a snippet of the Blue Sails Market menu:

As I stepped into the market, the aroma of the ocean hit me immediately, a tantalizing blend of saltwater and fresh fish.
As I selected my Halibut for dinner, the staff offered tips on preparing a simple yet delicious seafood feast, making me feel like a culinary expert in my own kitchen.
The sense of community and dedication to quality was palpable, making the experience feel personal and engaging. Thanks, Blue Sail.

How Can You Make a Reservation at Blue Sail Seafood Restaurant?
Making a reservation at the Blue Sail Seafood Restaurant is a straightforward process; just email info@thebluesail.ca or you can call directly: 613.645.2583.
I’ll be honest, I’ve called to make a reservation three times, but it was not required for two people.
However, on the weekend during the summer months is VERY busy. To secure a spot, especially during these peak times and weekends, I would certainly call ahead.
Walk-in Availability and Peak Times
For those who prefer spontaneity, Blue Sail does welcome walk-in customers, although it’s advisable to arrive early during peak times, like during the summer months.
The restaurant can get quite busy, particularly on weekends and during special events like Countylicious, so having a reservation is often recommended.
Fresh Seafood Arrivals and Weekly Specials
One of the highlights of visiting the Blue Sail Seafood Market is the daily arrival of fresh seafood. Each day, the market features new catches, providing customers with a diverse selection to choose from.
Additionally, weekly specials are announced, showcasing unique ingredients and offering great deals on popular items.
This commitment to freshness and variety ensures that loyal customers can always find something new and exciting to try, making each visit a delightful experience.
Check Out The Platter Preorder Options

Understanding the demands of modern life, Blue Sail Seafood Market also offers pre-order options for busy customers.
This convenient service allows you to reserve your favorite seafood in advance, ensuring that you can quickly pick it up at your convenience.
I’ve done this with Halibut as theirs is much fresher than our local grocery store, which is often frozen and tasteless.
If you’re going to invest a lot of money in Halibut, make it worth it.
By preordering, you can avoid the hassle of waiting in line and guarantee that you will receive the freshest seafood available.
This service is ideal for those planning gatherings or simply wanting to enjoy a delicious, home-cooked seafood meal without the stress.
