A Fun-Filled Visit To Hubbs Creek Winery in Wellington, ON

Hubbs Creek is located in the charming town of Wellington, in Prince Edward County.
I recently had the opportunity to visit this lovely winery, and I must say, it was a cute family-run vineyard.
It’s the perfect location for wine lovers as there are many other wineries, craft brewers, and cideries all within minutes away.
If you have been to the popular Karlo Estates winery then Hubbs Creek is just across the road.
The Hubbs Creek Vineyard
The long driveway leads to the small parking area on the right just before the main building where everything is located.
As we walked through the vineyards, surrounded by grape vines, I felt as though I had been transported to a European vineyard.
The fresh air filled with the sweet scent of pinot gris grapes made me feel a little bit excited to try some county wine.
This is a less busy winery because the popular Karlos Estates is so close meaning there were no crowds here during our visit.
The Wine List
Pinot Noir Unfiltered – a classic example of a county Pinot Noir. Minerality mixed with bright cranberry and a hint of the forest floor.
Hubbs Creek Vineyard 2018 Pinot Noir unfiltered (Estate Grown) – dark fruit and soft tannins. It finishes dry with lingering flavors of the autumn forest floor.
Gamay Rosè Süssreserve – strawberries, with hints of rhubarb, cotton candy, honey, and grapefruit.
Hubbs Creek Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 unfiltered (Estate Grown) – a fruit-forward Chardonnay with hints of honey and green apples, with hints of citrus.
Hubbs Creek Vineyard Pinot Gris 2019 (Estate Grown) – a classic example of why wines are grown here in Prince Edward County. Nose notes of citrus, lime, and lemon. The citrus follows through on the pallet. The wine is crisp and complex, finishing off with hints of stone fruit.
A Friendly Warm Welcome
Upon entering the winery, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us around and offered us a tasting.
I must admit, I was a little apprehensive at first, I’m not a wine connoisseur by any means, but the staff put me at ease with their warm and welcoming manner.
From winemaker John Battista Calvieri, you can expect nothing short of perfection when visiting this small vineyard.
The owner John Battista Calvieri has lots of experience in growing grapes and producing award-winning wines, Hubbs Creek Vineyard deserves its reputation as a world-class winery.
From their well-structured pinot noir, chardonnay, and to their delicate Gamay Rosè Süssreserve, Hubbs Creek Vineyards is guaranteed to offer something for every palette.
Visiting this small picturesque vineyard should be on everyone’s bucket list!
The Tour de Wine
The tour of the winery was really fast as it’s really small.
Our server explained the wine-making process, and I was fascinated by the amount of care and attention that goes into each bottle.
From growing grape varieties to the bottling room, we were given a behind-the-scenes look at the entire operation as there was no one else there.
Note: We often take our own self-guided wine tours starting early to beat the crowds.
Tasting the Wines
The highlight of the visit was, of course, the wine tasting.
I had the opportunity to try a variety of pinot noir, pinot gris, and Chardonnay, each with its unique flavor and character.
I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the wines, especially pinot noir.
And the best part for us?
I got to have a good laugh with the staff as they shared their favorite wine-drinking jokes.
The Laughter Continues
I wasn’t expecting to have so much fun at a winery, but the staff at Hubbs Creek Winery had a knack for making us feel at home.
I learned that wine and laughter go hand in hand, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with our visit.
