Wellington is a small town located in Prince Edward County, Ontario.

Although it is often overshadowed by its larger neighbor Picton, Wellington is actually a great place to visit in its own right.

There is so much to see and do in Wellington Ontario that include wine tours, bike tours, beach, fishing, shopping, restaurants, Art galleries, Antiquing, craft beer, wine, famers market, museum, organic lavender farms, live music and more.

Here are 25 amazing things that make Wellington worth checking out.

For starters, Wellington is home to some great restaurants, cafes wineries and unique dining experiences.

If you’re looking for a good cup of coffee or a delicious meal, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for.

1. Eat on a Patio in Wellington

Located at 153 Wellington Main St, Wellington, ON.

It’s definitely the biggest waterfront patio in Prince Edward County.

They offer an extensive menu and they are open year-round.

Very reasonable prices. I recommend the Lobster dip (Amazing) and the clubhouse sandwich but everything is great.

The service and the food are excellent and watching the boat activities is entertaining.

One of our favorite places to eat in Wellington.

The patio sits next to Lake Ontario. The food is superb!

The view is great and they often have live entertainment.

It’s a bit pricy but a really great experience.

This is a very popular patio for lunch and dinner but we often eat brunch there!

Give you a hint…try the duck wings, They are great.

The patio is nice and has a great view out into Lake Ontario.

5-minute walk to downtown Wellington.

Be sure to try the Oysters and the Steak and Fries! Delicious.

The last time we were there it was quite windy. A strong but really warm summer breeze which was actually quite nice.

Offering traditional Mexican menu dishes from quesadilla frita to Pollo Asado Street Tacos.

It’s a small cozy place to try some real Margaritas too!

Some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The patio is small but it wasn’t very busy when we were there anyways.

If you like Mexican you’ll love La Condesa!

The Louisiana-style jambalaya is the best I’ve ever had.

The scallops are perfect and really make the dish.

2. Shopping in Downtown Wellington

In addition, this small town is also home to a number of unique shops and boutiques.

Whether you’re looking for a new outfit or a gift for someone back home, you’re sure to find something special in one of Wellington’s many shops.

3. Wellington Beach $21

Wellington Beach

In addition to its great food and shopping, Wellington is also known for its beautiful beach.

The beach is part of the popular Sandbanks Provincial Park.

This means there is a fee of $21 to enter the park.

If you’re looking for a less busy beach there’s no better place to do it than one of Wellington’s beaches.

The beach is pebbles on the west side but turns into a sandy beach on the east side.

4. Go on a Wine Tasting Tour $0 – $200

There are over 50 wineries in the Wellington, Hillier area now and there are three ways to go on a wine tour.

5. Go on a Craft Beer Tour $0 – $200

  • Strange Brew – A small brewery under the back deck of a house…very Strange!!
  • Garage Time Brewing – Literally a garage with a small batch brewery inside.
  • Midtown Brewing – The most inexpensive brewery in Prince Edward County with great food.
  • Gillingham Brewing Company – Family-owned, small-batch brewery with some very tasty dark beer. Oysters every weekend and a comedy series you need to attend.

6. Rent A Bicycle – $45

Renting a bicycle is a great way to see Prince Edward County at your own pace.

The county is home to many scenic bike trails and bike paths that wind through picturesque roads, forests, and fields.

There are several companies that offer bike rentals in Wellington.

  • Bloomfield Bicycle Company – You take the Millennium Trail from all the way through to Wellington.
  • Closson Road Cycles – In the heart of wine country you don’t have far to go.
  • Pedego Electric Bikes – Located in Bloomfield makes touring around very easy.
  • Ideal Bike – We see these beautiful bikes every time we’re in Wellington. Must be doing something right!

7. Wellington Park – Free

Wellington Park is a beautiful spot located downtown right next to Lake Ontario.

The park offers swimming, children’s playgrounds, music, and more.

We enjoy picnics with family or friends throughout the summer.

Grab some takeout and sit and enjoy.

The park is also a great place to host events such as weddings or birthday parties.

8. Wellington Farmers’ Market – Free

Wellington Farmers’ Market is a weekly event that takes place in Wellington, Prince Edward County.

The market features a variety of local vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, artisanal products, and more.

The market is the perfect place to find all of your local food needs in one convenient location.

In addition to producing other food, the market also features live music and other entertainment.

9. Visit an Art Gallery

Wellington has at least 4 Art Galleries within walking distance of each other.

  • Sybil Frank Gallery – Close to 40 different artists are represented here.
  • Tom Ashbourne – Studio & Gallery – Stone Sculptures
  • Garden Gallery Studio – Non Objective paintings.
  • Sidestreet Gallery – Inside a beautiful historic building displaying over 160 pieces of art.

10. Try Some Craft Cider $7 – 25

Wellington Cider

craft cider is a type of cider that is made in small batches using traditional methods.

Prince Edward County is home to several craft cideries, each with its own unique style and flavor.

  • Loch Mór Cider Company – Some really great cider. They have a Bootlegger Whiskey cider that has the taste and smell of expensive scotch. Well, Done!
  • Stock & Row Farm Cidery – Offer really great cider. The Lime Crush tastes similar to Margaritas but the Slow and Low is truly great straight-up apple cider.
  • Cold Creek Vineyards Cider – Award-winning cider! The Madeline is the flagship cider and I can see why!

The county’s climate and soil are ideal for growing the apples used to make cider, and craft cideries take advantage of this by using local apples to produce their cider.

In addition to being delicious, craft cider is also a great way to support local businesses and farmers.

11. Lakeshore Farms Market

Worth a stop while in Wellington. Lakeshore Farms Market is a local market that sells fresh produce and other locally produced goods.

The market is open from June to October and features a wide variety of products, including fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, and more.

They offer frozen goods and fresh baked goods. The bread is baked that morning which explains why it’s so fresh.

Pick up a fresh pie, you’ll thank me!

12. See Millefleurs Lavender Farm – $5

Millefleurs Lavender Farm

The Millefleurs Lavender Farm is located just outside of Wellington.

The farm offers a variety of lavender-based products, including lavender oil, lavender soap, and lavender sachet.

Millefleurs Lavender Farm also offers a variety of other products, such as honey, beeswax candles, and local crafts.

They are open from June to September, and visitors can take part in a variety of activities, including picking their own lavender, making potpourri, and walking through the lavender fields.

The Millefleurs Lavender Farm is a great place to experience the beauty and fragrance of lavender.

13. Wellington Heritage Museum – Donations

The Wellington Heritage Museum is worth a visit for its extensive displays of the history of Wellington and the County.

The Museum has something for everyone with its three floors of exhibitions.

On the main floor, there are rotating exhibitions on various topics such as agriculture, textiles, and art.

The second floor is home to the Wellington Hall of Fame, which features inductees from various fields including sports, business, and the arts.

The third floor contains the Wellington Room, which houses a permanent exhibition on the history of Wellington.

14. Walk or Hike The Millennium Trail – Free

The Millennium Trail in Prince Edward County runs 46 km through the heart of the county.

It’s a multi-use trail perfect for hiking, biking, ATVs, Electric bikes, or even horseback riding.

The trailhead is located in Wellington, and the trail winds its way through some of the most scenic areas in the county.

15. Play a Round of Golf – $24 – $28

The Wellington on the Lake Golf Course is located just outside of Wellington.

The course offers stunning views of the area, as well as a challenging game for both novice and experienced golfers.

This Golf Course is an eighteen-hole course that was designed by Thomas McBroom.

The course is located on rolling hills, which provide a beautiful backdrop for a game of golf.

In addition to the eighteen-hole course, Wellington on the Lake Golf Course also offers a practice facility, pro shop, and clubhouse.

The clubhouse features a restaurant and bar, where golfers can relax after a round of golf.

16. Horse Ride with The County Carriage Co. $250 – $800

The County Carriage Co.

The County Carriage Co. is a local business in Wellington, Prince Edward County.

The company offers horse-drawn carriage rides around the town and surrounding countryside.

The business was started in the early 1990s by John and Jane Smith, who saw a need for this type of transportation in the area.

The carriage company has since become a popular tourist attraction, and it is known for its friendly and reliable service.

The company offers a variety of different carriage rides, including private tours, group tours, and special occasions.

The County Carriage Co. is a great way to experience the beauty of Wellington and the surrounding area.

17. Try Glamping for $170 – $350

Glamping in Wellington at the Lakeside Hotel is an unforgettable experience.

The hotel is situated in Prince Edward County which is world-renowned for its wineries, beaches, and natural beauty.

18. Encounter Alpaca – $35

Looking for a unique encounter in Prince Edward County? You should check out the Alpaca Encounter at the SHED in Wellington!

Here, you can meet and interact with these gentle animals, and learn about their care and husbandry.

Also, purchase Alpaca clothing and products made from their wool.

You’ll have a chance to feed them, pet them, and even take selfies with them!

19. Yoga with Alpacas – $25

Yes…I said Alpaca Yoga!

Alpaca yoga is a unique form of yoga that is offered at the SHED in Wellington Prince Edward County.

This is a wellness session amongst the very calming Alpacas.

Alpacas are very gentle creatures and they enjoy being around people.

During an Alpaca yoga session, the Alpacas will walk around the room, and sometimes they will even lie down next to you while you are doing your Yoga poses.

An experience you will not forget I’m sure.

20. Visit Huyck’s Point

Huyck’s Point is a part of Lake Ontario located in Wellington, Prince Edward County. The bay is home to a variety of wildlife, including seabirds, fish, and mammals.

This is also a popular spot for swimming, boating, and fishing. The point is named after Captain Huyck, who was the first European to settle in the area.

Many attractions for all ages but most people go there to swim for FREE in Wellington making it a popular tourist destination.

21. Treat Yourself to an Ice Cream

The Old Greenhouse –  Full-cream 10% soft serve and scooped styles of ice cream. They have specialty bowls, shakes, ice cream, and floats.

We stop here just about every time were in Wellington.

22. Enjoy Live Music

Music in The Park – Every Tuesday night there are live bands performing music in Wellington Park for free. A local band named “The Reasons” are well known for the ’50s and 60’s rock, so worth checking them out.

Local Wineries Live Music – There are various live music shows at the many different wineries in the Hillier and Wellington area.

23. Free Swimming

Snorkeling over all the flat rock from the beach in Wellington Park.

There are stairs that lead to the rocky beach from the park and it’s free to swim there.

I have snorkeled up both sides of the beach all the way down to the Sandbanks at Wellington Beach.

24. Go Fishing

I have fished all around Wellington and some of the best places are really close to shore.

If you have been to Wellington Beach or Harbour you may have noticed the small lighthouse.

Later in the fall, you can catch both walleye and Salmond off this point.

You can also rent a canoe from a few of the cottages in the area like Twin Birch Suites-Cottages.

Tons of Bass in the weeds of the Wellington Harbor and the trip over to the Dunes is worth it.

So whether you’re looking for a great place to eat or shop, or just want to enjoy some time outdoors, Wellington is definitely worth a visit.
